Calibrators

It is vital that you calibrate your noise dosimeter or sound level meter regularly, otherwise the accuracy of your measurements may be affected.

This is particularly important when measurements are being taken for legal reasons, when it comes to occupational noise (hearing protection) and in environmental, planning and boundary monitoring. AES supplies calibrators to suit all of the sound and noise devices we stock.

There are a number of reasons why the use of calibration equipment is so important. It provides peace of mind that the meter is measuring consistently over a given time period, it provides manufacturer proof that the meter and calibrator are functioning normally, it provides improved performance and a longer lifespan, and it ensures that your warranty remains valid.

There are effectively two types of calibration that can be performed:

  1. Field Calibration: Carried out before (and possibly after) each measurement using a reference acoustic source as a calibrator.
  2. Recalibration (or Periodic Calibration): The meter is returned to a factory-certified service centre for testing and adjustment. This is recommended annually to every 2 years.
