The Bactiquant-surface kit is a rapid method for measuring the level of bacteria on surfaces. It was specifically developed to test surfaces that have been affected by water sources across:
Category 1 (burst pipe or leaking hot water system)
Category 2 (overflown toilet bowl, bath or shower, or waterbed leaks or bursts)
Category 3 (sewerage contamination or flood waters that have entered into a building from the outside)
-or surfaces potentially contaminated with bacteria.
The on-site method can be used to determine when the level of bacterial contamination requires remediation and is used to asses against criteria for a successful cleaning operation.
Used effectively in applications such as medical and clinical facilities, HVAC cleaning and maintenance, water and flood damage clean-up and sewage backflow, the Bactiquant – surface can demonstrate the efficiency of the cleaning effort and show that the total bacterial level has been reduced to levels found on clean surfaces.
Bacteria can sometimes inhibit mould growth and vice versa. In situations where liquid water is visibly present bacteria often dominates completely inhibiting mould growth. Where conditions are moist, but without liquid water, mould usually dominates and can inhibit bacterial growth.
Below we’ve outlined 5 reasons why using the Bactiquant- surface is a more effective process than ATP-based methods.
Bactiquant-surface is the only US-EPA verified rapid surface technology specifically for bacteria
The technology behind Bactiquant-surface is the only method which has been verified by USEPA (Environmental Protection Agency), the agency which aims to reduce environmental risks based on the best available scientific information.
Accurate and specific method
The bacterial enzyme activity that is determined with this method is not unique to bacteria but easily differentiates bacteria from other organisms. No other test equipment on the market today allows you to separately detect bacterial and fungal contamination on-site in less than an hour. By using Bactiquant- surface, the practitioner can make reliable, accurate diagnostics of the true microbial conditions in the field.
High data reproducibility
Robust chemistry and standardised sampling and analysis protocols are the basis of the high reproducibility of this method.
Robust method
The method is based on detection of a hydrolytic enzyme activity by use of a very sensitive fluorescence technology. Sampling is performed with sterile swabs which are wetted with sterile saline and used for swabbing 9 cm² area. The analysis follows an easy four step process to get results in an hour.
Easily interpreted results
The robust chemistry provides defined cut off values for clean/not clean and for normal house level or contaminated house level. Hundreds of samples from flooded and non-flooded reference building were collected to establish interpretation criteria:
The level of bacterial contamination is like the background level found on visually clean surfaces in non-flooded houses.
The level of bacterial contamination is like the level found on visually dirty surfaces in non-flooded houses.
The level of bacterial contamination is above the level that can be expected on dirty surfaces in non-flooded houses.
The Bactiquant-surface fills the gap between the slow classical cultivation methods and the very rapid but non-specific and often inaccurate methods based on ATP technology. High reproducibility and robustness has provided a platform for the development of Interpretation Criteria which is a unique feature for the Bactiquant-surface.
