Have you recently purchased a QRAE 3 and would like to have a better understanding of the battery before putting it to use? Whilst the instructions for charging and changing the battery are fairly straight forward, we want to stress the importance of undertaking all steps correctly to avoid possible damage to your battery or device. Always ensure that the battery has been fully charged.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of igniting hazardous atmospheres, you should only recharge, remove or replace the battery in an area that is known to be non-hazardous. You should also never mix old and new batteries or ones from different manufacturers.

How do I charge the battery?
If the Li-ion battery has low voltage, the instrument will need to be placed in its travel charger. The lip catches on the front of the device, then the charger tilts up and latches into place. The LED should glow red to indicate that the instrument is charging and will change to green when finished.

Before charging this, however, you must visually inspect the contacts to ensure that they are clean. If they aren’t, give them a thorough wipe with a soft, dry cloth. Never use solvents or cleaners.

How do I replace the battery?
Should your QRAE 3 battery need to be replaced, you will need to remove the screws holding the compartment cover in place. Remove the cover and slide the battery out of its compartment. Insert the new battery into the compartment, paying close attention that the electrical contacts are on the bottom. Replace the cover and tighten the screws holding it in place.

What are the different battery states?
On the display, you should notice a battery icon, which shows how much charge is left (in the form of three bars) and alerts you to any charging problems (in the form of an exclamation mark). When the charge drops below a preset voltage, the QRAE 3 will warn you by beeping and flashing once every minute. The instrument will automatically power down within the next 10 minutes.

Now that you have a better grasp on how to charge, remove and replace your QRAE 3’s battery (as well as what the different icons mean), we hope that you are comfortable putting the device to use in the workplace. If you have any problems charging your instrument or you require new battery packs, do not hesitate to contact the Active Environmental Solutions team.
